Great Vacuum For the LazyMar 09, 2010 This is my 2nd Roomba. The 1st was a 530, 3 yrs old & not on a timer. We upgraded the the 560 just for the convience. The quality is the same. If you are home every day, get the 530. I have a dog & cat in the house with all hard floors. I would go crazy if I had to clean that every day myself. This is by far the best investment I have ever made. The only improvement they could make would be better bump sensors. It hits the furniture pretty hard & leaves marks.
Beware - DOES NOT RESUME CLEANING AFTER CHARGINGMar 09, 2010 Overall the iRobot is a nifty little cleaner. It appears to accumulate a decent amount of dust. For the most part, it avoids gingerly obstacles, but due to the IR sensor, it sometimes bangs into dark objects with a thud. The cleaning pattern is OK, cleaning some areas more than it needs to and other areas not quite enough. Six out of ten times, the iRobot returns to its base while other times you will find it sitting in the hallway, apparently lonely and lost.
My biggest complaint and probably because I feel misled is that the product description states "The vacuuming robot returns to its self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge between cleaning cycles or when the battery starts to run low." This statement easily leads one to believe that the iRobot will resume cleaning where it left off once it is fully recharged, like some other brands do. But Nooooo - not only does it not resume cleaning automatically, it totally forgets where it left off and starts the cleaning cycle from the beginning even if you were to manually start it. So if the iRobot needs to recharge after cleaning half the space, it will never finish cleaning the other half once it recharges. All this was confirmed thru iRobot technical support, which wasn't half bad BTW.
GreatMar 08, 2010 The Roomba is perfect...except...only thing I am disappointed with is that the silver on top is getting very scratched as it goes under furniture so that within the first week of using it my Roomba looked old. Considering how expensive the product is, it seems they could have used a little higher quality metal on the top. Other than that, this is a classy machine. I love how easy it is to clean and the superb job it does vacuuming.

Ipod of vacuumingMar 03, 2010 Waited a year to write a review - got this as a Christmas gift in 2009, on a whim. Just like the Ipod (or DVR), this is a game-changer in its field, and it has revolutionized our house-cleaning. My wife has "roomie" running ragged, and it is still doing it's thing a year later. We set it up (via the lighthouses and other physical barriers) to clean one room at a time, then empty the bin and clean the brushes, charge it, and set it loose on another room. An absolute time-saver and gets the space cleaner than manual vaccuuming - both carpeted and hardwood areas. We have a beagle and it picks up the fur nicely. We have 3 kids as well, so we set it up to vaccuum while they are sleeping or while we are running errands. Haven't had any reliability issues, but once it goes (as it inevitably will at the pace we have it working), we will replace it with a new model. A number of our family members bought it and have become huge fans as well after we raved about it. Highly reccommended for anyone with a lot of vaccuming to do.

As Always, iRobot Products Work For Me - When I Use ThemFeb 24, 2010 I didn't get the housecleaning gene, so I'm always looking for a way to get it done effectively and with as little time and effort as possible, so I can do things I enjoy. I actually have come to enjoy using my iRobot Scooba and Roombas, as well as my Dirt Dog Shop Robot.
Since I have inside dogs and I do a lot of yard work and gardening, in red clay Oklahoma dirt, my hardwood floors and tile floors take a beating. I've already reviewed the Scooba and Dirt Dog and how helpful they are to me.
The Roomba is so much fun to just start up by hitting the button, and then watch it go. It makes a little noise, so I usually close the door so I can talk on the phone and take care of my business, which I operate from home. Later Roomba stops, either because it's finished and it makes a little celebratory song to let you know, or because it needs to be recharged. I have extra batteries and just plop one in and hit 'play' again. Sometimes it tells you that it needs to be emptied. While not exactly my favorite chore, although it's great fun to see how much dirt it has picked up, it's no big deal to shake out the dirt and the filter, replace it and let it go again.
Roomba is a great idea for me. A really great housekeeper will probably not be amused by it, and will likely say that it just doesn't clean to his or her standards, but I find it a great time-saver and it cleans MUCH better than I would if I were doing it myself.
Oh, and my dogs just stay out of its way. It wouldn't hurt them anyway, but they just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't bump into them, which they are sure they don't want to happen. When it does happen, they just move. It's actually a distraction for them and keeps them from being bored and bugging me to go out, have a treat, etc. It keeps them occupied, if not actually entertained.
I love my Roomba and recommend it. It doesn't offend me a bit to know that it cleans better than I do.
