Description:

Ahh, baby has finally fallen asleep. Time to do the dishes/eat dinner/go to sleep…but wait! Is that the baby waking up? Is she coughing? Is she breathing?

Every new parent (and one or two veteran ones, too) knows this scenario. It’s lovely when your baby sleeps, but it sure would be nice to keep an eye on her, too. But there aren’t too many parents around who have the luxury of sitting quietly in baby’s bedroom, watching her sleep. This is why baby monitors were invented. And traditional audio monitors are a terrific boon to modern parents. But the Day and Night Handheld Color Video Monitor—now here is technology at its finest!

Turn On, Tune In, and Stay Out of Baby’s Room
With this slick little monitor, not only can you hear your little angel’s every breath and snuffle and rustle, but you can see her every move, too! From anywhere in the house, no less! Sound lights visually show baby’s level of activity, while nighttime LED lights on the camera make the baby fully visible day and night. Simply push one button on the parent unit to take a peek, then push the same button when you’re reassured enough to rely on the sound lights for a while. With a 350-foot range, you can carry the monitor receiver everywhere you go, even into the yard. And, most importantly, you won’t be tempted to poke your head in through that creaky bedroom door you keep meaning to fix just for a quick look at your little tot—which inevitably results in her waking and needing to go through the whole bedtime rigmarole again.

Techy Details
The 1.8-inch screen is plenty big enough to see what you need to see: your little darling’s slumbering form in full color (during daylight hours) or black-and-white (the automatic nighttime view). The parent unit includes 900 MHz technology for superior clarity of sound. If static occurs, switch channels on the two-channel selection to minimize interference. Two power options—rechargeable battery or A/C—provide parents with the freedom to roam or stay put. The rechargeable battery lasts up to 10 hours, making it a good choice for travel. The parent unit also includes an audio/video output jack and is headphone-ready (headphones not included). Brightness control and volume control features allow parents to tone it down or turn it up when necessary. Screen automatically "times out" to save batteries. "Power on" indicator lets parents know, well, when the unit’s on! Baby’s unit includes A/C-powered camera, nighttime LED lights for viewing baby in a darkened room, self-filtering directional microphone, two-channel selection to minimize interference, and "power on" indicator.

And You Put It…?
Baby’s unit provides tabletop or wall-mounted options. A belt clip and stand on the parent unit allows complete portability, while an anchor and security clips (6 included) enables parent to mount the receiver on the wall. --Emilie Coulter

4Love it, wish it was digital!Mar 11, 2010
LOVE THIS MONITOR! The picture is very clear, much better than every monitors I've seen. The sound is excellent. I love the idea of having 2 monitors for my 2 kids. Love that the sound stays on constantly with the peek feature to see what's going on. You can also keep the screen on the whole time when it's plugged in. My only gripes about it, it's not digital so I get a lot of feedback because we have A LOT of wireless stuff in our house. It doesn't automatically switch back and forth between each room. This requires us to have an audio monitor in addition to this monitor in my son's room. And lastly since it's not digital there were a few times when my daughter's camera was turned off and I could see the neighbor's room. (I guess they have the same one!) This pretty much creeped me out. I wish Summer would take this exact model and just make it digital. I'm still trying to find another monitor that I like as much as this one in digital. I just can't take the feedback any more. The kids are sleeping through the night, however we're getting woken up by feedback. For some reason when you get into these digital monitors they start throwing all these unnecessary bells and whistles. SUMMER - if you read this.....this monitor is AWESOME, just please make it in digital!

5love this monitorMar 11, 2010
My husband and I love this monitor. Many a time I have verified that our son is still breathing by turning up the volume. The camera is mounted on a higher end railing of the crib, attached with velcro. At night, I put the monitor next to my head upside down on the bed to minimize the static noise and turn it to a volume where the static isn't too loud, but I still wake up if he makes waking noises. Works like a charm. We do not live too close to other houses though and even if we did, there are no other young children in our neighborhood, so we don't have the safety/security/voyeurism issue that others have complained about with having just 2 channels. Our son is 10 months old and we've been using this since he was about 10 weeks old and in his own bedroom/crib. It has always worked very well and reliably and is totally worth the money to get one with a camera so you can see what's going on. It prevents you from having to actually go into the baby's room to check on him. I recommend this product to anyone I know who has or is having a baby.

3Good monitor - wish it would have lasted longerMar 07, 2010
First off, the video and audio quality were exactly what we were after. No interference and great range around the house and yard. As others have mentioned, there are only 2 channels, and the signal is not secure. Our neighbors have the same monitor and they can see our baby and we can see their baby - luckily we're good friends with them so we're not too worried about this, but this may be a concern for others.

The reason why I'm not giving this more stars is the durability of the hand held unit. The battery life was almost non-existent after a year, which I can understand after repeated discharges and re-charges, this forces us to always use the plug and limits mobility for us at times, but this is not a major concern. If replacements were more readily available I would have purchased one.

The other problem is with the volume control. We have never dropped the hand held or abused it, but after a little less than 18 months began having problems with the volume control. First it would only work in certain positions, then it began to cut out without warning. This became a problem when I awoke one night to hear our daughter screaming, yet no sound from the monitor, the LED lights were working though. Now it works reliably only at full volume, which can deliver a rude awakening in the middle of the night if our daughter cries out. We know 2 other people with the exact same monitor, one has no problems other than battery life, the other has the same volume control problem we have.

I would consider this monitor again, but would think of it as having only a 2 year life span or less.

5Should have bought this a long time agoMar 06, 2010
When my first was baby was born, I bought an audio monitor because we have a one storey house and I could easily go and check on him when I heard him.
THe problem is that sometimes he is just having a bad dream and by bursting in his room, I make things worse because I wake him up and then he does not want to go back to sleep.
I am expecting my second child and some friends of mine recommended this video monitor so I ordered it early and installed it in my toddler's room. What a relief!
Not only is it a pleasure to watch him sleep but also I am able to evaluate when a mommy visit is really necessary.

I am strongly considering buying a second camera to install in the baby's room so that I can keep an eye on my toddler!
And I strongly recommend this product. It has been working very well and the screen is large enough to give you a good look at the bed.

1It's a good setup, but these monitors don't last more than a yearMar 05, 2010
I have a 2.5 year old and a 10 month old. Since the birth of my first child, I have burned through two Summer handheld monitors. I tried to get the battery replaced on the first, but that solution only worked for a short while. I repurchased thinking I'd have better luck with a second unit. After only a few months, I started having problems with battery life in it. The second unit still works, but the battery won't hold a charge. Therefore, it only operates when it is plugged into the cord. It is still useful, but the portability is gone.

If battery life were not such an issue, the product would be great. I've had recurring problems with these, so I don't think I got a lemon. The batteries just don't last.
