3Outlet Plate Covers, original by Kidco vs Cheapo by Safety FirstSep 02, 2010
The original ones made by Kidco were a 5* plus! They did the job, easy to use and install and no issues what so ever.

However no clue if Kidco sold off most of its stuff or what happend but now Safety First makes these and sadly they are classic Safety First quality, CRAP!

If you have the original ones by Kidco you are golden and that is a question to ask if purchasing second hand ones. If you have the new ones by Safety First, don't waste your time.

I hate when a great company takes a great product and sells off the rights to it to a trashy make money and screw quality place :(

How to tell the difference:

Kidco ones had one screw hole in the center. Safety first's have three spots for screws. Also if you have them in hand you can clearly tell by the quality and construction if you flip them over and look!

4Great but can be difficult to plug some things inAug 03, 2010
These covers are great for keeping little fingers out of the socket. They slide open to access the plug-in area and slide closed when not in use. They're too difficult for little fingers to move but an adult can work them. Also, if things get unplugged the sliding part works automatically, you don't need to slide it back into place. A nice plus is that they make the outlet look sleek and they're not really bulky. The only negative is that because they're a little on the thick side (to accommodate the sliding part), certain things are difficult to plug in. For example, lamps, vacuum, etc are easy, but things with a heavy/square part on the plug end are more difficult. I have a really hard getting my carbon monoxide detectors to stay in place because they're heavy and so they pull out of the plug very easily.

4Works as expectedJul 13, 2010
Very easy to install. Turn off power at the breaker, remove old outlet cover screws, pop out 1 or 2 holes depending on outlet type, fit using new screws. Took me at *most* 3 minutes for the first one, but only a minute for the last one.

I'm not a big fan of outlets which only have the single screw because - as naturally happens - it makes any outlet cover more likely to move. But that's not a fault of the product. The only flaw with the product happens when you are required to have a single-screw outlet cover and only a 2-prong plug: the sliding part may dislodge the plug. I ended up moving the fan to an outlet behind some furniture which would wedge it in and prevent this happening. But this is just as much the fault of whoever designed outlets like this and the apparent American default of non-grounded items which leave insecure plugs easy for anyone to knock out. (The cats regularly unplug the stereo by walking past it.)

I would definitely buy these again, and wish I'd bought them sooner. They're easier to use than the multiple plastic outlet plugs I was using before.

4Great Idea!Apr 05, 2010
I was a little hesitant to buy this product because people were saying that their plugs wouldn't fit into the outlet once installed, but I went ahead anyway and bought it. I have never had a problem plugging things in and I am so glad I bought these. My son has not be able to figure out how to use them and leaves the plug ins alone now. I was once worried about him putting something in there, but that is no longer a fear. I would highly recommend them if your child can take out the plastic plug ins.

2Poor fitMar 26, 2010
I am not sure how this was so highly rated other than it is a "slide" type which seems more usable than the other baby proofing guards. The cover plate is not wide enough to cover most of the holes in my house. If I try to mount it over other plates it is too far out to get a good connection. You cannot tighten this enough to make it hold well. So the cover plate is always a bit loose.

The one good thing about this is the springs on the slide plate appear to be high quality. Some other models I have don't alway pop back into place.

I may return if I find a better manufacturer.
