4does the jobFeb 27, 2010
These work great. My 2 y/o gets into everything! I was able to discreetly baby proof our laundry room door and my 11 y/o son's door. I am getting ready to buy another packc b/c I need to lock my teenagers door and one of the bathrooms. We've tried many other locks, but these work the best.

5Best door locksJan 14, 2010
These on-top-of-the-door locks were the best invention for child-proof door locks EVER! No worries about the parent getting locked in or out of a room because they don't deal with the door knob at all; they are also operable from both sides of the door. A real simple product that is easy to use. I'm mad that I didn't think of this. There's no worries about children "figuring it out" because they can't reach the top of the door (and probably won't for at least 10 years). My rough-neck daughter has tested the lock's limits by pushing into the door with great might to open it, and has never compromised the lock.

4Could be improved, but does the job overallOct 21, 2009
Amazon seems to think this is a toy, which it is not. I rate it four stars, though that's possibly generous. It's really just a cheap plastic slide lock that goes over the top of the door an engages a screw that you drill into the top of the frame. Your kid can't reach it and so when he or she tries to open the door, it won't go anywhere. If forget and push on the door too hard while opening, I could envision the screw pulling out or the plastic breaking, but you probably won't do that. If your kid is big enough or you have more than one kid and they team up, they might be able to push this hard enough to defeat it, but I wouldn't use that as a reason not to buy it. My biggest annoyance is that while I did buy this THROUGH Amazon, I did not buy it FROM Amazon, and so shipping was quite expensive. Amazon needs to have a better selection of babyproofing items directly from it, rather than through third parties.

1Not really usefulSep 29, 2009
I wasn't able to use this item as the way it is made, the door has to be a certain way. Our doors are apparently on backwards! If I had installed this item, which by the way came without very specific instructions, my daughter would have been locked in without anyway to get her out. Be careful purchasing this item, it may not work for you either.

5Effective and easy to install and useAug 13, 2009
These do a great job of keeping my toddler out of certain rooms. Compared to locks that go over doorknobs, these are easier for adults to use. Unlocking is quick and easy if you're tall enough to reach the top of the door frame, and there's only a slight awkwardness if you're shorter and need to use the handle. The door does budge slightly if you pull on it, but not enough to get fingers inside. An adult could probably break the plastic by pulling on the door hard enough, but I don't think my strong toddler could do it.

Installation requires a drill, and the instructions are inadequate. But I did it easily and I'm no carpenter. Just look at a picture first, and remember to install on the side of the door opposite the hinges.
